WHITING, Ind. – The run for Judson University's first-ever CCAC Tournament softball championship came to an end with their second one-run loss of the tournament, 2-1. The University of St. Francis (28-27) produced the winning run in the bottom of the sixth and then held off Judson in the top of seventh advancing in the post-season tournament.
Sarah Boyer went the distance for Judson taking the loss with eight strikeouts. Corey Shahan pitched the final three innings for St. Francis to earn the win with three strikeouts. Caitlyn Balandis started the game for St. Francis going four innings striking out three batters.
Bri DiGioia and Allison Catlett went 2-of-3 at the plate as DiGioia had the lone RBI for Judson. St. Francis had four players with one hit each in Jenny Festin, Kaley Jendraszak, Tori Johnson, and Brittany Bochenek.
Judson took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning when DiGioia tripled in Amanda Hart with no outs. After that one-run inning, St. Francis tied the game with one run in the third on a Judson error as Bochenek came in. St. Francis' Jendraszak had the game winning hit in the sixth inning with a single to centerfield as Jenny Festin crossed the plate.
Judson will now wait to see where they will be seeded in the NCCAA National Tournament in Virginia next week.
