Game Overview


WHITING, Ind. – Purdue University-North Central's Colin Willis was the difference in the game advancing the Panthers in the winner's bracket over Judson University, 2-1.  Willis stole home in the top of the ninth inning with two outs for the go-ahead run.   Judson had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the inning with bases loaded and no outs but Shane Prance had a fly out and a double play to end the game.

 

Judson's Tyler Ware received the loss going the complete game with strikeouts but gave up two earned runs.  Purdue-North Central's Jordan Polito went 7.2 innings for the no decision as Prance finished the final 1.1 innings for the win. 

 

Both teams had eight hits on the day as both  Matt McHenry, Tony Rallo, and Craig Lipp all had two hits each for Judson.  Rallo had the lone RBI.  Purdue-North Central's Ched Gaskin led all batters with three hits.

 

Purdue-North Central went on the board first in the second inning on a Greg Toliver single that scored Nate Hall.  In the fourth inning, Judson threatened on a Rallo hit to left field as Amann tried to come in as the tying run but was thrown out at home plate by Purdue-North Central's Hall.

 

In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs, Prance came in to face Rallo with a 1-0 count.  Rallo took a full count in the box and singled up the middle to tie the game as Nick Norris came in from third base. 

 

Purdue-North Central countered in the top of the ninth as they had bases loaded with two outs and stole home for the go-ahead run.   Judson had their chance for another comeback in the bottom of the ninth but failed to bring in the winning runs.  They had bases loaded with no outs and followed with a short fly out to left field and then a double-play to end the game.

 

Judson will now face the loser of the Robert Morris University/Olivet Nazarene University game at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd. Judson is now 44-11 on the year.
