ELGIN, Ill. – Clinching a spot in the CCAC Tournament Championship for the first time in the history of the program, Judson University took a 5-2 win over the University of St. Francis in men's tennis. Judson will play Olivet Nazarene University for the championship at 5:00 p.m. in Homewood, Ill., at the Homewood Floosmor Tennis Club.
Judson started the match with a 3-0 advantage by taking all three doubles matches. John Mittvick and Reilly Good fought off Mark Zubov and Alex Haixel, 8-5 for point #1. Tyler Adland and Andrew Moment then won 8-4 in #2 doubles over Chad Randall and Diego Magravejo. Adam Westhauser and Jeff Splinter made it 3-0 at #3 doubles holding off Eddie Semik and Zach Mullady, 8-5.
Moment was the fourth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Aaron Sanderson in #6 singles. Judson then dropped the #1 and #2 singles matches as St. Francis pulled within two, 4-2. Westhauser then clinched the match win, 5-2, with his victory at #5 singles. He took a 6-1, 7-5 win over Semik for the fifth and final point needed to advance to the championship.
