
Elgin, Ill. – Justen Boyd’s free throw with three seconds left lifted Judson University (16-8/9-2) to a 92-91 win over Calumet College (17-11/7-4) in CCAC play. Boyd made 1-of-2 free throws and then CC could not get a shot off as time expired. As tight as the score is, Judson never gave up the lead the entire game. With the win, Judson will now play for the CCAC Championship on Wednesday night against Trinity Christian.
Boyd shot 83% (10-of-12) from the floor for 27 points to lead four Judson players in double figures. Ilija Bojanic canned six three-pointers for 23 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Chris Oates finished with 16 points and now needs just 16 points to reach 1,000 career points and Dewayne Robinson had 10 points. CC’s Tom Radtke led all scorers with 32 points.
With 6:41 to play, Judson had a 17-point lead, 77-60, and was looking to put CC away but could not get through the Crimson Wave pressure. CC fought their way back with a 31-14 run to tie the game at 91 with 24 seconds left. JU received the ball after CC’s Waybon McConnell tied the game on a layup. Just 21 seconds later, Boyd was fouled and made one of two free throws.
JU entered the second half with only a seven-point lead and CC cut he lead to five right away just 24 seconds in. Over the next six minutes, JU put together a 14-5 run for a 14-point lead, 60-46, with 13:41 left to play.
Judson kept their double-digit lead until the 4:18 mark. In those nine minutes, JU had as large as a 17-point lead four different times. CC’s Wilfredo Escobar was fouled while shooting a three-pointer and made all three of his free throws to bring JU’s lead to seven, 84-77, with 4:18 left.
Judson had a slim five-point lead with 3:41 left when CC’s Escobar fouled Steffan Williams. In that final 3:41, JU shot 12 free throws but only made five. At the 1:25 mark, CC’s Zeb Hall put the Crimson Wave within three points on a lay up, 88-85, but Bojanic nailed his sixth three-pointer of the game to push the lead back to six (1:08).
Just 18 seconds later, CC’s Radtke dunked home the ball to come within four and then with only 30 seconds left in the game he made a lay up to bring the lead down to two, 91-89.
At the 24 second mark, JU turned the ball over under CC’s pressure and McConnell tied the game at 91. JU took the ensuing possession and ran the clock down to three seconds for the final shot when Boyd was fouled.
The first half was one of Judson’s best on the year for shooting as they made 52% of their shots from three-point range. Bojanic was 5-of-5 from three-point range in the half and had 15 points at halftime.

Another 6-0 run by the Eagles made it 31-24 and again CC answered on with their own 6-0 run to make it 31-30. In the next three minutes, JU had a 10-4 run to take a seven-point advantage, 41-34. Each team finished the half scoring five points as Judson had a 46-39 lead at the half.
JU shot the lights out in the first half from beyond the arc by making 9-of-17 for 52%. They only made four three-pointers in the second half and finished shooting 46% for the three. Overall, JU made 50% of their shots but struggled from the free throw line only making 51%. CC made 50% from the floor, 23% from three-point range, and 81% from the stripe.
CC held the rebounding advantage, 45-31, but JU forced 17 turnovers and had nine steals. JU also recorded seven blocks.
Judson will now play their final regular season game for the CCAC Championship on Wednesday in Palos Heights against Trinity Christian at 7:30 p.m.
