
Elgin, Ill. – Shooting 50% from the floor combined with making nine three-pointers, Judson University (15-7/8-2) held off a feisty Trinity International University (6-20/2-7), 79-70. With the win, JU still claims a share of first place in the CCAC with two games remaining.
For the 16th time this season, Dewayne Robinson claimed 20 or more points in a game putting up 26 to lead all players. Judson also was lead by Steffan Williams 14 points and Joe Gonnam and Chris Oates 13 points. Chad Reilly had 18 for TIU.
The first five minutes of the game went Judson’s way as they staked a five-point lead, 14-9. Over the next three minutes, TIU had a 10-2 run to take a three-point lead, 19-6. Ilija Bojanic tied the game at 19 with 11:53 left in the half that sparked a 17-4 run over seven minutes to give JU a 10-point lead, 33-23. After that point, JU never lost the lead.
At the 8:14 mark, JU only had a two-point lead when Robinson made things more exciting in the run. TIU’s Ignas Verbus cut JU ‘s lead to two, 24-22, and then Robinson made a TIU defender embarrassed. Robinson took the ball down the court, drove the lane, and then leapt over the TIU defender for a massive dunk that gave JU a four-point lead. JU capped off the run with 1:54 left on a three-point play by Joe Gonnam to put the Eagles up by 13, 36-23. TIU outscored Judson, 7-2, in the final minute to bring the halftime score to 38-30.

Judson finished shooting 50% overall and made 60% of their free throws and 39% from beyond the arc. In the first half, they made 42% from the three-point line. TIU shot only 65% from the stripe and 41% from the floor.
Defensively, both teams were matched well. Judson had 17 turnovers and eight steals while TIU had 16 turnovers and 11 steals. TIU out rebounded JU, 37-33.
Judson will have their last home game of the year on Saturday, February 16th, in Senior Day as they host Calumet College at 7:30 p.m. This game is a big factor in the CCAC race for the championship as CC is only one game behind JU and Trinity Christian.
