
Elgin, Ill. – Turning the game around in the second half, Judson University (10-14/5-3) came from 14 points down to defeat Trinity International University (12-15/6-2), 61-56. JU had a 21-6 run over 10 minutes in the second half to take en route to taking the lead and not giving it up again.
Claiming career-highs in scoring were Alicia Rovertoni and Kirstin Johns. Rovertoni recorded her 7th double-double of the year with a career-high 24 points and 12 rebounds while Johns posted 20 points. Reanna Perera had 15 for TIU.
At the 17:46 mark in the second half, TIU was in control of the game with a 14-point lead, 39-25. Over the next 10 minutes, Judson slowly chipped away at the Trojan lead little by little with a 21-6 run.
Rovertoni, who had eight of the 21 points, started the run with a jumper with 17:15 to go. With 12:43 left, Rovertoni made another jumper to bring TIU’s lead down to six, 43-37. Down six, again, 45-39, Johns scored five points in just 34 seconds bringing JU within one, 45-44 (8:54). Johns was also a big part of the run as she netted seven of the 21 points.

The first half became a battle early for Judson. JU went up 7-5 with 14:22 left in the half but TIU reeled off a 9-2 run for a five-point lead, 14-9. TIU never relinquished control after that point. JU had cut the lead to one four different times but could not take the lead.
The final 3:46 of the half went in favor of TIU as they finished on a 9-0 run for a 10-point lead. TIU had a 26-25 lead as JU missed five straight shots and had five turnovers. The Trojans ended the half with nine seconds remaining as Perera made a layup for the 10-point lead, 35-25.
Both teams did not shoot very well from the floor as JU made just 37% of their shots and TIU made 42%. Both teams shot in the teens for the three-pointer with Judson making 16% and TIU 14%. Even the free shots did not fall for either team as JU claimed 57% from the line and TIU made 41%.
JU was a force under the basket and on the court defensively. JU out rebounded TIU, 46-37, and then forced 26 TIU turnovers and had 13 steals.
With the win, JU still has a chance to tie TIU for second place in the CCAC with two games remaining and they are one game behind TIU. JU will host Calumet College for Senior Day on Saturday, February 16th, at 5:30 p.m.
