Game Overview

ELGIN, Ill. – It took a final defensive stand in the last 14 seconds for Judson University (10-19/7-6) to secure their 10thwin of the year as they did not let Purdue University-North Central get a game-tying three-pointer shot off for the 62-59 win.  Judson's defense was all over the court in the final 3:25 as Purdue-North Central failed to score in that time.

Brian Pedersen (St. Charles, Ill.) had a stellar game under the hoop with 19 points going 9-of-15 from the floor.  Caleb Sutton (Lincoln, Ill.) finished with 17 points and Adam Hodge (South Elgin, Ill.) generated 11 points.  Hodge, Landon Skinner (Plano, Texas), and Sutton led the team with five rebounds.  Skinner also provided nine assists for Judson.  Nick Neal had 16 points for Purdue-North Central.

Stifling Purdue-North Central's offense in the final 3:25, Judson came from behind in the final five minutes of the game for the win.  Purdue-North Central scored two points in the final 3:25 on two free throws from Kylee Sanders and did not make any buckets as Judson took the game back.  With 3:47 left in the game, Pedersen put Judson in front, 55-54, but Purdue-North Central had a 5-1 run in the next two minutes for a three-point lead.  Nick Neal started Purdue-North Central's run with their final bucket of the game at the 3:25 mark.  In the final 1:34, Judson had a 6-0 run for the win with points from Pedersen, Sutton, and Josh Edwards (Mapleton, Ill.).  Pederson laid in a layup to start the run and put Judson within one, 59-58.  With 34 seconds left in the game, Sutton drove the lane and was fouled as he completed a three-point play for the go ahead bucket, 61-59.  Purdue-North Central received a technical foul with 12 seconds left as Edwards made 1-of-2 free throws for the three-point win.

Judson opened up the second half on a 10-7 run to move their lead to 12, 46-34.  In the next four and a half minutes, Purdue-North Central went on a 12-2 run to come within two, 48-46, and in a total of 11 minutes, they took a one-point lead, 54-53.  They outscored Judson, 20-7, in those 11 minutes as they looked to take over the game, 54-53.  Neal's three-pointer at the 3:25 mark looked exciting for the moment for Purdue-North Central but it came as their last bucket.

Dominating the first half, Judson never left off the gas pedal in the first 20 minutes of the game as they shot 64% from the floor.  At the 9:00 minute mark, they had a 16-point lead, 26-10, on a Pedersen layup.  Purdue-North Central did not hit the double-digit mark until the 10:19 mark, 22-10.  They slowly climbed back into the game cutting the lead to seven, twice, 30-23, and 34-27, before being down nine at the half, 36-27.

Judson finished shooting 56% from the floor but only made 18% of their three-point shots and shot 50% from the stripe.  Purdue-North Central made 45% of their shots, put in 33% of their three-pointers, and shot 76% from the line.  Each team had 26 rebounds and Judson had one less turnover, 17-16.

Judson will host Trinity Christian College on Saturday, February 18th, in the final regular season home game at 5:00 p.m.
