CHICAGO, Ill. – Hanging onto a two-point win over NAIA Division I Roosevelt University (7-11), Judson University picked up their seventh win of the year, 66-64. Roosevelt missed a three-point shot with five seconds left and Adam Hodge (South Elgin, Ill.) made 1-of-2 free throws to seal the two-point win.

 

Caleb Sutton (Lincoln, Ill.) led Judson with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds and putting in 17 points.  Landon Skinner (Plano, Texas) followed with 16 points while Anthony Ahlers (Magnolia, Ill.) and Josh Edwards (Mapleton, Ill.) had 10 points each.  Adding 10 rebounds with five points and four assists was Hodge.  Mark Tometich had 17 points to lead Roosevelt.

 

Judson had as large as a 13-point lead in the second half before letting Roosevelt back into the game.  With 3:43 left in the game, Roosevelt took a three-point lead on an Elliott Vaughn jumper, 62-59.  Judson fired back with a 6-0 run for a three-point lead, 65-62.  Jason Roy (Wheaton, Ill.) put Judson back in from with 2:48 left on a jumper and then Hodge made it 65-62 with 1:28 left in the game.  Roosevelt cut the lead to one, 65-64, with 59 seconds left on two free throws by Paul Tometich and then they stole the ball back with 35 seconds left for a chance to win the game.  With five seconds left, Tometich launched a three-pointer but it failed to go in as Hodge came down with the rebound and went 1-of-2 at the line to extend the lead to two, 66-64.  Roosevelt did not have enough time to get a shot off as Judson won their seventh game of the year. 

 

In the first 10 minutes of the game, both Roosevelt and Judson exchanged leads.  Roosevelt took a one-point lead, 16-15, with 11:27 left when Judson went on a 17-4 run over seven minutes for a 12-point lead, 32-20.  Judson then had a 10-point lead at the half, 38-28.

 

Judson finished shooting 49% making 55% of their free throws and 27% of their three-point shots.  Roosevelt made 42% of their shots and finished making 37% from three-point range and 42% from the free throw line.  Judson won the rebounding battle, 38-32, and had four blocks. 

 

Judson will host Purdue-Calumet on Wednesday, January 25th, at 7:30 p.m.
