Game Overview


ELGIN, Ill. – Outscoring Finlandia University, 31-12, in the final 13 minutes of the game for their ninth win of the year, Judson University came from eight points down for an 18-point win, 77-59.  Judson had four players score in double figures as they moved to .500 for the first time this year.

 

ShaRhonda Huff (Chattanooga, Tenn.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds along with five assists for Judson.  Ricquel Butler (Keller, Texas) led the team in scoring with 18 points while Karen Senette (Soldotna, Ak.) added 16 points and Kim Peek (Springdale, Ark.) had  10 points.  Shaikiera Armstong had 23 points to lead all scorers for Finlandia.

 

Finlandia opened the second half on an 18-9 run for an eight point lead, 47-39, as they looked to take control of the game.  With 12:58 left in the game, Judson started a 31-12 run that would end the game as Finlandia never had the lead again.  Over the next five minutes, Finlandia was held to just one point as Judson took a three-point lead, 51-48, at the 8:13 mark.  Finlandia's first bucket made from the floor in that time came at the 8:02 mark to cut Judson's lead to one, 51-50.  Huff followed with a layup with 7:53 left as Judson pushed their lead to 12 over the next three minutes.  Senette canned a three-pointer with 4:26 left to make it 63-51 but Finlandia would not go away.  They came within four, 63-59, with 3:18 left on the clock only to see Huff, Shaniqua Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.), and Senette score a combined six points for a 10-point lead, 69-59, with 1:35 remaining.  Huff had another layup followed by a Roberts free throw, and then a Senette three-pointer put Judson up by 10.  Senette made it a 13-point lead, 72-59, with 43 seconds left and Butler finished out the scoring with the final five points on a jumper and three-pointer. 

 

The first half was a battle there were five lead changes.  Judson took an early three-point lead, 9-6, on a Lenna Galantis (Waco, Texas) three-pointer at the 15:57 mark.  Judson had a five-point lead, 22-17, with 7:53 left on a Butler jumper only to see Finlandia go on an 8-0 run over three minutes for a three-point lead, 25-22.  Judson ended the half on an 8-4 run as they retook the lead, 30-39, at the half.

 

Judson made 42% of their shots from the floor and finished shooting 25% from beyond the arc and 76% from the foul line.  Finlandia finished making 43% of their shots, shot 36% from the three-point line, but made only 36% of their free throws.  Judson won the rebounding battle, 42-31, and forced 19 turnovers and had five blocks.

 

Judson will host Moody Bible Institute on Wednesday, January 11th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center.
