
Deerfield, Ill. – Taking control in the second half, a 14-0 run by Judson University (11-6/4-0) kept the Eagles perfect in CCAC play as they took a seven-point and went onto an 85-72 victory over Trinity International University (4-16/0-3). Two Judson players had career nights in the win.
Justen Boyd was a key player for the Eagles playing the entire game and scoring a career-high 35 points. He netted 28 of the 35 points in the second half. Ilija Bojanic recorded a double-double with a 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Chris Oates added 15 points and Steffan Williams had 13.
The biggest momentum change in the game came in the second half for Judson. With 15:26 to play, TIU claimed a seven-point lead, 49-42. Over the next three minutes, JU out scored TIU, 14-0, to take their own seven-point lead, 56-49.
Andrew Ream started the run with a three-pointer and then Bojanic tied the game on a three-point play after he grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled as he put the ball back up for two-points. From there, Boyd scored the next four points followed by another Ream three-pointer to finish off the run.
TIU cut the lead to three, 59-56, but could not get a shot to tie the game. They were within three two other times the rest of the half. TIU was within three, 67-64, with 4:38 left in the game only to see Bojanic score on the next possession to put JU ahead by five. From their on, JU out scored TIU, 18-8, to finish the game for the win, 85-72.
In the first nine minutes of the first half, TIU took a eight-point lead, 18-10. That lasted for only three minutes as JU had a 7-0 run to cut the lead to one, 18-17. JU took a brief lead, 21-20, with 6:04 left in the half as it was only brief with TIU scoring the next seven points to make it 27-21. TIU pushed their lead to 11, 39-28, just before the half. Oates nailed a three-pointer just before the buzzer sounded to bring TIU’s halftime lead to eight, 39-31.
With the win, JU improves to 11-6 overall and continues to have one of their best starts, ever, in CCAC play at 4-0. Judson has now won four games in a row and six of their last seven.
Overall, JU shot 49% from the floor, hitting 60% of their shots in the second half. They made only 30% from beyond the arc and 75% from the free throw line. JU held TIU to 46% shooting, 23% from three-point range, and 75% from the stripe. JU out rebounded, TIU, 39-30, and had more steals, 7-6. Judson also recorded five blocks.
Judson will look to stay perfect in the CCAC when they travel to Indiana to face Calumet College at 7:30 p.m. in Wednesday, January 23rd.
