Judson 80, Purdue-Calumet 56 - Box

Elgin, Ill.- Moving to 3-0 in the CCAC and picking up their 10th win of the season, the Judson University Eagles (10-6/3-0) claimed a 24-point win over Purdue University-Calumet (2-16/0-2). Everybody that dressed for Judson scored in the game with four players in double figures.

Each recording their third double-double of the season, Ilija Bojanic (Podgorica, Montenegro) led Judson with 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds while Joe Gonnam (Verona, Ill.). Justen Boyd (Batavia, Ill.) had 12 points and Chris Oates (Streamwood, Ill.) and Steffan Williams (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 11. PUC’s Charles Cruz had 17 points.

PUC came running out of the gates to begin the game and took a seven-point lead, 11-4, in the first five minutes. They had a nine-point lead, 15-6, with 12:15 remaining in the half only to see Judson go on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to one, 15-14 (9:48). PUC pushed their lead back to five, 21-16, at the 7:14 mark but the momentum changed quickly. Judson’s offense came back to life and they ended the half on a 24-8 run and took an 11-point lead, 40-29, at the half.

The run was split up between Bojanic, Oates, Gonnam, Boyd, and Williams. A Bojanic three-pointer with 4:11 left put JU ahead for good, 28-27, as they cruised to their 11-point lead.

PUC stayed within the hunt for the lead in the second half. They had the lead down to seven, 52-45, with 12:45 left in the game. JU shot back with an 8-2 run to push their lead back to 13, 60-47. After that, PUC never cut JU’s lead into the single digits.

Bojanic gave Judson a 21-point lead, 74-53, on a lay up with 2:19 on the clock and then Matt Koehling (Big Rock, Ill.) put JU ahead by 24 points, 80-56, their largest lead, with just 29 seconds left in the game.

Judson scored 22 points off of 18 PUC turnovers with 12 steals and also won the rebounding battle, 43-42. JU finished shooting 42% from the floor and 31% from three-point land. PUC only made 35% of their shots and was held to 18% from beyond the arc.

On Saturday, January 19th, Judson will travel to Deerfield, Ill., to face Trinity International at 7:30 p.m. in another CCAC game.
