
Manitowoc, Wisc. – Teaming up to force 47 turnovers, Judson University (4-9) came away from Wisconsin with a 79-45 win over Silver Lake College (3-9). JU scored 43 points off SLC’s turnovers.
Marissa Marshall (Austin, Texas) led Judson with 17 points and Theresa Larson (Newark, Ill.) netted 15 points. Ashley Cheairs grabbed seven rebounds. SLC’s Michelle Stueck had 14 points.
Missing their first six shots of the game, JU started out of the gates with cold shooting. SLC took a 5-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and JU did not hit their first shot from the floor until the 16:01 mark on a jumper by Candace Plantz. SLC made it 7-3 with 14:54 left, but JU went on an 11-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. With that run, JU never relinquished the lead the rest of the game. SLC did not fold after the run and stayed with seven for most of the half. JU took a 10-point lead, 29-19, on a Marshall three-pointer with just 1:50 left in the half and took a 14-point lead at the half, 35-21.
Judson turned up the heat in the second half, defensively, as SLC only hit two shots from the floor in the first seven minutes. SLC scored at the 17:35 and then did not hit another shot until the 12:57 mark. JU took a 21-point lead in that time on a Larson shot. Jaime Scheufel gave JU a 30-point lead with 6:53 left in the game on a three-pointer. JU took their largest lead of the game with 15 seconds left in the game on a jumper by Marshall to make it 79-45.
Defensively, JU did not allow SLC any three-pointers in the game and recorded 31 steals. The Eagles finished shooting 37% from the floor to SLC’s 31%. SLC out rebounded JU, 50-45.
Judson will be off until January 3rd when they travel to Indiana to face Indiana-Northwest.
