Chicago, Ill. – A strong shooting performance from North Park University (4-2) in the second half doomed the Judson University Eagles (5-4), 83-66. JU had a three-point lead at the half before NPU outscored the Eagles, 50-30, in the second half.

Four players were in double figures for Judson as DeWayne Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.) had 17, Steffan Williams (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 15, Chris Oates (Steamwood, Ill.) posted 14, and Justen Boyd (Batavia, Ill.) finished with 10. NPU’s Nick Williams had 19 points to lead all scorers.

 

The second half was the difference in the game as NPU found the bottom of the net from three-point land eight times shooting 66%. They also shot 56% from the floor in the half. NPU’s Williams tied the game at 36 just over a minute into the second half but JU’s Robinson hit one of two free throws to put JU back in front, 37-36. NPU hit a layup at the 15:13 mark but Robinson gave JU the lead again, 39-38, with 15:42 to go in the game. At this point, NPU ran off a eight straight points to make it 46-39 and take a seven-point lead. JU cut the lead to five three different times and made it 57-52 with just 8:07 left in the game. Over the next three minutes, NPU outscored JU, 14-2, to take a commanding 17-point lead, 71-54, with 5:19 remaining. JU could not recover from NPU’s final run as they fell, 83-66.

Looking good in the first half, Judson took a quick eight point lead, 10-2, in the first three minutes of the game. NPU fought right back as JU saw their eight point lead diminish as they tied the game at 10 with 15:41 left in the half. JU increased their lead to seven, 19-12, with a 9-2 run in the next three minutes but NPU came back and tied the game at 21 at the 6:48 mark. By the 3:21 mark, NPU had taken a 33-28 lead to cap a 21-9 run over the past nine minutes. JU answered with an 8-0 run to finish the half and take a three-point lead, 36-33.

JU finished shooting 43% from the floor while NPU made 46%. NPU made 13-of-25 from the three-point line for 52%. NPU also out rebounded JU, 42-34. JU turned the ball over 17 times to NPU’s 12.

Judson’s next game is not until December 19th when they host St. Francis (IL) at 6:00 p.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center.
