
HAMMOND, Ind. - An early run by Purdue University-Calumet put Judson University down by 10 points as they trailed the rest of the game, falling 94-81, in the first round of the CCAC Tournament. The loss ends Judson's season at 12-18.
Karen Senette (Soldotna, Alaska) led Judson with 15 points while Kim Peek (Springdale, Ark.) added 11 points and Rachel McBride (Decatur, Ill.) 10 points. Senette and Daisy Jara (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) led Judson with seven rebounds.
After the game was tied at two, Purdue-Calumet went on a 13-3 run in the next four minutes for a 15-5 lead. Judson could never recover the 10 points the rest of the game. Judson came within eight, several times, but could never get past that hump. With 1:03 left in the half, Peek nailed two free throws to put Judson within eight, 40-32, only to see Purdue-Calumet finish with a 6-2 run and a 12-point lead at the half, 46-34.
Purdue-Calumet had a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Judson's Peek had a layup with 16:21 left in the game to come within eight, 52-44. By the 13:23 mark, Purdue-Calumet extended their lead to 15, 61-46, with a 9-2 run. At the 3:21 mark, Senette hit three free throws come within nine, 81-72, and then she hit her second three-pointer of the night with 55 seconds left in the game to put Judson within nine, 88-79. Purdue-Calumet made 7-of-12 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the win, 94-81.
Judson shot 42% from the floor, 35% from the three-point line, and 73% from the line. Purdue-Calumet finished shooting 44% from the floor and three-point range and made 65% of their free throws. Purdue-Calumet out rebounded Judson, 45-40, and forced 17 turnovers.
Judson does not lose anybody for this year's team as there were no seniors and only one junior in Shaniqua Roberts.
