
Elgin, Ill.- The women’s soccer team of Judson University is still receiving honors for their 2007 season as two players were named to the NCCAA North Central All-Region Team. Senior Samantha Vestal (Bakersfield, Calif.) and sophomore Christina Thorton (Algonquin, Ill.) were given the honors.
Receiving her first award of the season, Vestal was named the NCCAA National Player of the Week once this season. She was also the CCAC Player of the Week once. She finished the season with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points. She scored both of the goals in the CCAC Tournament Championship win over Robert Morris for JU’s first-ever CCAC Championship.
Thornton finished 12th in the nation in NCCAA in goals per game (0.80) and 17th in points per game (1.90). In the NAIA, she was named to the NAIA Region VII First-Team. She has scored two or more goals in six matches and recorded three goals vs. Bethel College. She also had the game winning goal over then #12 Trinity Christian College. She was also named to the All-CCAC First-Team for the second year in a row. She now sits third all-time on JU’s career list for goals at 39 and fourth in points with 92.
Judson finished the year at 11-7-2 while winning their first-ever CCAC Tournament Championship. They were also the #1 team in the NAIA Region VII Tournament.
