Judson 94, Davenport 68 - Box
 

Elgin, Ill. – Making 58% of their shots and canning 10 three-pointers, Judson University (5-3) won their own tournament, 94-68, over Davenport University (3-3). JU has now won five of their last six games after an 0-2 start.

Judson’s Ilija Bojanic was named the tournament’s MVP along with DeWayne Robinson being named to the All-Tournament team. Others named to the team were Davenport’s Sai-Quan Griffith, Northwestern College’s Mike Anderstrom, and Indiana-Northwest’s Jon Shurr.

The three-point shot was popular for Judson as they went 10-of-20 with Chris Oates hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and finishing with 19 points. Dewayne Robinson, who led all scorers with 27 points, was 3-of-3. Bojanic hit two three-pointers and finished with 21 points Justen Boyd was the other double-digit scorer with 10 points. He also had seven assists and six rebounds. Bojanic and Oates led with seven rebounds a piece. DU’s Trevor Manning and Kale Waaso scored 15 points.

Having only a six-point lead heading into the second half, 43-37, Judson felt DU’s pressure early as the Panthers cut the lead to three, 48-45, just two minutes into the second half. Judson responded by reeling off 15 straight points over six minutes for a 15-point lead, 66-48. Before the run started, DU had a couple of chances to cut the lead but missed a jumper and a three-pointer in less than a minute after coming within three. Robinson had seven of the 15 points in the run with Oates hitting two of his four three-pointers.

By the 8:40 mark, JU had a 21-point lead, 76-55, on another Oates three-pointer and then Robinson gave JU a 31-point lead, 90-59, with 4:19 remaining.

In the first half, Judson took a quick 10-point lead, 15-5, in the first five minutes and had a 15-point lead, 25-10, by the 11:21 mark. DU did not cave in as they battled back. JU had a 16-point lead, 33-17, with 7:07 left in the half when they erupted for a 20-10 run to end the half and bring Judson’s lead down to six, 43-37.

JU had their best shooting performance of the year by hitting 58% of their shots from the floor and 72% from the free-throw line. They held DU to just 36% from the floor and forced 18 turnovers. JU had 46 points in the paint to DU’s 28 and scored 32 points off of DU’s turnovers. DU out rebounded JU by one, 37-36.

Judson will now face NCAA Division III North Park University in Chicago on Friday, December 7th at 7:00 p.m.
