Game Program: Coach Jim Cook

ELGIN, Ill. - Coming from 16 points down to take a one-point lead with 6:57 remaining, Judson University (0-4) could not hold onto the lead as they fell to Ashford University (1-5), 63-55. Judson took a 46-45 lead with just under seven minutes left in the game only to see Ashford finish the game on a 18-9 run.

Hailey Cnota (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had a career game with 14 points besting her previous career-high of nine. ShaRhonda Huff (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led Judson with seven rebounds. Ashford's Jordan Davis led all scorers with 15 points.

Despite forcing 28 Ashford turnovers, the difference in the game came on the boards as Judson was out rebounded, 47-29. Ashford also shot 43% from the field and 44% from three-point land. Judson finished shooting just 28% and made only 22% of their three-point shots.

After the first five minutes of the game brought a 7-6 lead by Judson, Ashford took advantage of the next seven minutes with a 15-1 run. With 7:23 left in the half, Ashford had a 13-point lead, 21-8, and held Judson to just one free throw made. Judson went almost eight minutes without making a basket. Shaniqua Roberts put Judson up 7-6 at the 14:14 mark and Judson did not make another basket until the clock read 6:52 on a Rachel McBride layup. Ashford extended their lead to 16, 30-14, with 1:40 remaining but Judson finished the half on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 11, 30-19.

Ashford continued their offensive prowess in the second half as they had a 12-point lead, 40-28, with 12:35 remaining. At this point Judson's offense started to click as they posted an 18-5 run over the next five and half minutes. Ricquel Butler finished the run with 6:57 on the clock as she nailed two free throws to give Judson the lead back since early in the first half. Ashford's Jena Peterson gave them the lead back just eight seconds later and they never gave up the lead again. Judson had several chance to tie or take the lead but could not find the net. Judson's Kim Peek hit a three-pointer in Judson's earlier run at the 8:42 mark and once again Judson did not make a bucket until there was 4:53 left in the game. After Peek's three-pointer, Judson went 5-of-6 from the foul line for their points. Cnota's jumper with 4:53 left cut Ashford's lead to two, 51-49, but the Saints went on a 10-2 run in the next four minutes for a 10-point lead, 61-51, to put the game away.

Judson travels to Indiana for the Huntington University Classic on Friday and Saturday as they will face Huntington and Malone University.
