
Elgin, Ill. – Cruising to a first-round Judson Tournament victory, Judson University (3-5) ran away with a 96-20 win over Indiana University-Northwest. The 96 points scored was the most since JU defeated Principia 101-65 in the 2005-06 season.
All members of the Judson women’s basketball team scored in the game with three players in double figures. Theresa Larson led the way with 14 points. Devonaye Henderson had 13 points while recording her first double-double of the year with 12 rebounds. Ashley Cheairs added 11. Lakeisha Williams had 13 of IUN’s 20 points.
JU started the game with a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes and was ahead by 14, 16-2, by the 14:18 mark. IUN did not hit their first shot from the floor until the 12:53 mark after two free throws made just three minutes into the game. With 10:32 left in the half, a three-pointer by Heidi Rosenbaum gave JU a 20-point lead, 28-8. Jaime Schaufel put JU up by 31-points, 39-8, with 7:48 to go and then Henderson pushed JU over the 40-point lead limit with a layup to make it 52-11 (3:45). Crystal Goodall gave the Eagles a 45-point lead at the half, 56-11.
The second half did not get any easier for IUN as JU went up by 51 just three minutes into the half on a Kirstin Johns layup. It was a Cheairs layup with 14:40 to go that put JU up by 60, 71-11. At the 9:25 mark, Cheairs gave JU a 70-point lead, 81-11. JU held the Redhawks to only four made shots from the floor with the first shot made with 7:54 left in the game.
Shooting 49% of their shots from the floor, Judson’s best half was in the first when they went 23-of-42 for 54%. They finished the game shooting 36% from the three-point line and 73% from the free throw line. IUN shot only 19% from the floor, 12% from three-point land, and 50% from the stripe.
JU forced 35 turnovers and had 26 steals on the night while only turning the ball over 14 times. JU also out rebounded IUN, 54-20.
Judson will now face Davenport University in the Judson Tournament Championship at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
