Judson 80, Concordia 62 - Box
 

Elgin, Ill.- Outscoring Concordia University 14-2 in the final 3:45 of the game, Judson University (2-2) won the Judson Tournament, 80-62. CU had cut the lead to six, 66-60, with 3:45 to go before JU mad the run for the win.

Both DeWayne Robinson and Joe Gonnam led Judson in points and rebounds. They both recorded 21 points and had nine rebounds. Chris Oates added 15 points and Steffan Williams had 10. Dennis Meaney had 20 for Concordia.

 
Concordia scored the first five points of the game in a minute and a half as Judson did not hit their first shot from the floor until the 16:49 mark. After CU took a 7-2 lead, Oates hit a three-pointer to bring the score to 7-5. After the 5-0 lead by CU, JU had a 17-2 run over six minutes for a 10-point lead, 17-7. In the run, Robinson had six of the 17 points while Oates gained five points. The Eagles picked the defense up a notch in the run as they did not allow a CU basket for five of those minutes. By the 3:53 mark, JU built a 20-point lead, 36-16, on two Robinson free throws. CU ended the half on an 11-6 run to cut the lead to 15, 42-27, at the half.
 

Creeping back into the game in the second half, CU slowly broke down Judson’s 15-point lead. JU scored the first five points of the second half to bring their lead back to 20. In the next nine minutes, CU ate away at JU’s lead and brought it down to eight points, 58-50, with 9:45 remaining on free throws by Meaney. A three-pointer by Robinson and a layup from Ilija Bojanic put JU back up by 13, 63-50. Over the next five minutes, CU had a 10-3 run to cut JU’s lead back down to six, 66-60, with just 3:45 remaining. In just a minute, Gonnam put the lead back to double-digits with a three-pointer and two free throws, 71-62. Those five points ignited the 14-2 run that ended the game for Judson and improve them to 2-2.

Judson shot well from the floor hitting 46% of their shots while shooting 54% from three-point range and 70% from the stripe. CU finished with a shooting percentage of 43% but only made 18% of their shots (2-of-11) from beyond the arc. CU out rebounded JU, 34-31, but JU forced 12 turnovers with nine steals.

Judson will now travel to Iowa after the Thanksgiving break and face Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday, November 24th, at 3:00 p.m.
