
ELGIN, Ill. - Waiting almost three weeks since reporting to camp for their season opener, the Judson University volleyball team fell in three sets to Trinity Christian (7-2/1-0), 14-25, 13-25, 14-25. Judson reported to camp on August 17th and has scrimmaged twice in that time.
Sophomore Carissa Oelke (Oregon, Ill.) led Judson with six kills and two serving aces while senior Carly Campioni (Crystal Lake, Ill.) recorded 17 assists and nine digs to lead the team. Both Karissa Groharing (Byron, Ill.) and Kylee Koon (Plainfield, Ill.) had three blocks each.
In all three sets, Judson started off with a quick lead but Trinity Christian always came roaring back. In set one, Judson started off with a 3-0 lead. Two straight kills by Groharing and then an attack error by Trinity Christian gave Judson the lead. Trinity Christian followed with a 9-1 run for a 9-4 lead. Judson did cut the lead to four, 12-8, but did not get any closer.
Judson and Trinity Christian were tied at two and four before Judson took a 6-4 lead. Oelke gave Judson a 5-4 lead on a service ace and was followed by a Trinity Christian attack error to score their sixth point. Trinity Christian again responded with a long run (8-2) for a 12-8 lead. Fighting back, Judson four of the next six points to come within two, 14-12, only to see the Trolls finish on an 11-3 run to finish off the set, 25-15.
Set three mirrored the first two sets as the set was tied at two and three before Judson took a 6-4 lead. Oelke made it 5-3 with her second service ace of the night and a block by Koon and Groharing put Judson up two, 6-4. Trinity Christian shot right back with a strong 13-3 run for a nice 17-9 lead. Judson could not dig out of the deep hole falling in three sets, 25-14.
