
Elgin, Ill.- Goshen College’s (3-2) Cassie Greives’ game winning jumper with 00:00.5 left in the game gave the Leafs a one-point victory, 59-58, over Judson University (2-2). Goshen was down 13 points with seven minutes left in the game before they came back to take the game away from Judson.
With 00:02 left in the game, Goshen turned the ball over and was down, 58-57. JU threw the ball in and then with 00:00.5 left mishandled the pass and turned it back over to Goshen. GC proceeded to take a timeout for a play and then came in for the quick pass in and jumper for the comeback win.
JU came out defensively in the second half holding GC to no baskets in the first four minutes of the half. In the time, JU went on a 11-0 run for a 10-point lead, 35-25. JU kept their distance for most of the half until the 7:07 mark. Goshen faced a 13-point deficit with 7:07 left, 52-39, but finished the game on a 19-5 run. In the final seven minutes, JU only made three shots from the floor. After Crystal Goodall made a layup to put JU up by 13, the Eagles did not make another basket until the 4:56 mark to keep their lead at six, 54-48. It was almost another three minute before they made a basket with 2:24 left for a five-point lead, 56-51. GC kept coming at JU and cut the lead to one, 58-57, with 20 seconds left in the game before the made the game winning.
GC controlled most of the first half as they had their largest lead of seven, 25-18, with 3:30 left in the half. JU then ended the half on a 6-0 run to come within one, 25-24.
Defensively, JU forced 31 turnovers and had 24 steals. Overall, JU shot only 38% from the floor, 26% from the arc, and 37% from the free-throw line. GC finished shooting 43% from the floor and 47% from the stripe.
Judson will not face Huntington University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th, in the Lindner Fitness Center.
