Judson 3, Spring Arbor 1 - Box

MT. VERNON, Ohio - Starting off at 3-0 for the second year in a row, the Judson University men's soccer team had two second half goals to break a 1-1 tie at the half and surpass Spring Arbor University (0-3-1), 3-1. Judson is playing in the Mt. Vernon Nazarene University Tournament and will face Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, September 4th.

Corey Burke (West Chicago, Ill.) put Judson on the scoreboard first in the 30th minute when he took a cross from Bruno Oliveira (Brazil) in the middle of the box. Just 10 minutes later, though, Spring Arbor's Godwin Adaii tied the game up in the 40th minute with a shot from 25 yards out.

The second half proved to be a different outcome for Judson as the offense picked it up a notch. Mike Tobie (Grayslake, Ill.) recorded his first goal at Judson as Rafa Heck (Brazil) slipped a pass to him in the middle of the field in the 56th minute. Almost 20 minutes later, an Elgin, Ill., connection took place as Eddie Philpot (Elgin, Ill.) laid in a pass to Martin Khoshaba for the two goal advantage (77th minute).

Alex Tyton saw only two shots on goal and stopped one in the win. Judson finished with 21 shots and had six on goal to just Spring Arbor's seven shots. It was also a clean game as only 11 fouls were called with six on Spring Arbor.

Judson will now face Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday. Mt. Vernon Nazarene is receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll.
