Judson 8, Concordia-Chicago 1

ELGIN, Ill. - For the first time in 12 years the Judson University women's tennis is back in the winning column. Judson took an 8-1 win over NCAA Division III Concordia University-Chicago for their first program win since 1998.

"Today was a big milestone in Judson women's tennis. Where the men's team won their very first match last year the ladies and I have waited quite a long time for this day," quotes head women's tennis coach Art Steuber. "I was very happy with our results from Saturday and the close loss gave me some great teaching and talking points. The ladies worked hard this week and really played great. I know they are excited about the win and can't wait to play again."

Judson reinstated the women's tennis program last year and the team fought hard but did not pick up a win. Judson's last win came in the 1998 season when they went 3-7.

Judson took every doubles match and five of the six singles match for their eight points. Megan Joyce (St. Charles, IL), Rachel Hegel (Elgin, IL), Danielle Sum (West Dundee, IL, Kristen Kress (Bartlett, IL), and Kirstie Shales (Elgin, IL) all took singles wins.

In doubles action, Joyce and Hegel won the #1 match, 8-4. Antigone Lowery (Denton, TX) and Sum combined for the #2 doubles win, 8-0, and then Brittany Boelter (South Elgin, IL) and Melissa Vivian (Dixon, IL) won the #3 doubles, 8-0.

Judson will host Elgin Community College on Thursday, September 9th, at 3:30 p.m.
