ELGIN, IL. - Heading into the first game of the season Judson University (1-0) was able to shutout Taylor University (0-1), 3-0, with three different Eagles scoring. Judson is now 1-0 on the new season and facing #21 McKendree University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 to close out the Judson University Invitational.

The game's first goal didn't occur until the 42nd minute, of the first half when Judson University's Eddie Philpot (Elgin, IL) connected off a pass by Danny Hinterlong (Elgin, IL) to take the early lead. Judson's defense held Taylor scoreless in the first half with some impressive defensive plays. Taylor received two yellow cards in the first half and proved to be a momentum shift in today's contest. Judson outshot Taylor by five shots to none.

Judson scored twice more in the second half with freshman Eric Reyes (Guatemala) connecting for his first collegiate goal in his first game. Reyes received the pass from Joe Monahan (Peoria, IL) who set him up for the goal in the 86th minute. The Eagles also received some offensive prowess from Rafa Heck (Brazil) who took a Sven Moeller (Germany) pass all the way for a breakaway goal in the 53rd minute.

For the game Judson outshot Taylor University, 11-2, and took eight corner kicks while holding Taylor to none. Taylor out fouled Judson, 15-9, and had three yellow cards.

Judson's goalkeeper Alex Tyton picked up his 16th shutout at Judson and now has 19 career shutouts. He also had one save in today's match late in the second half.

Judson continues in their own Invitational against #21 McKendree University tomorrow, August 28 at 3:30 pm at Dawson Field.
