Grace College 58, JU 37 - Box

Elgin, Ill.- Beginning from the first basket made, Grace College (3-1) led Judson University (2-1) as the Lancers went on for a 58-37 win. The loss drops JU from the undefeated ranks and breaks their chance of becoming only the fourth team to start out 3-0 in the history of the program.

Theresa Larson (Newark, Ill.) was the only Eagle in double digits with 13 points. She also led in rebounding, with Kelly Friestad (Newark, Ill.), at seven. Grace College had three players in double figures as Lauren Zeltwangerg led all scorers with 15 points.

JU came out cold in the first half as they made their opening shot at the 19:17 mark to tie the game at two but then did not make another shot on the floor until there was 12:01 left in the first half. In that time GC only had a five-point lead, 9-4. GC slowly crept away with the lead and with 3:42 left in the half they were up by 13, 25-12. They took their largest lead of 14, 29-15, into the locker room as they hit a shot with 00:38 left in the half.

In the first three minutes of the second half, JU cut the lead to seven, 31-24, on a 9-2 run. That is as close as the Eagles would come as GC went on a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to boost their lead to 17, 43-26. JU could not overcome the deficit as GC claimed the 21-point win.

JU shot 29% overall for the game and just 13% from three-point range. GC shot 40%, went 5-of-9 from three-point range (55%) and made 75% from the stripe. JU did force 24 turnovers and recorded 11 steals.

The 37 points scored is the lowest amount scored in a game since the 1996-97 season when JU lost to Calvin, 41-30. The loss also stops JU’s two-game winning streak.

Judson will try to get back to their winning ways this weekend when the host Goshen College on Friday, Nov. 16, at 2:00 p.m.
