
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - Keeping their post-season run alive, Judson University won the third game of a three-game series to clinch their ticket to the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) National World Series in Ohio over Olivet Nazarene University, 6-2. Judson fell in the second game of the series earlier in the day, 10-5, but bounced back to win the third game and the NCCAA North Central Regional Championship.
With the win, Judson continues to improve on their school record for wins at 39. Judson will now have a chance for 40 wins as they will play at least two games in the NCCAA World series. The 39 wins crushes the record 30 wins that was set last year.
Nick Krisman pitched a complete game win as Judson won their second NCCAA North Central Regional championship for the program. Krisman gave up two earned runs from the mound but collected four strikeouts on six hits. Brian Brauer went 3-of-4 with one RBI to lead Judson. Adding two hits were Mike Krueger, Andy Parsill, and Angel Cisneros. Krueger and Parsill each had two RBI.
Judson scored five runs from the second inning through the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead. The first run came in the second inning and then two more in the third with one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Olivet Nazarene cut the lead two three-runs in the bottom of the sixth but Judson added one final run to make it 6-2.
Krueger gave Judson their first run of the game in the second inning with a double to right field as Cisneros crossed the plate. In the third inning, Zach Williams was the second run of the game on an Olivet Nazarene throwing error as he scored from second base. Two batters later, Parsill singled through the left side as Matt McHenry came in for a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Brauer singled down the left field line as Krueger came in. In the fifth inning, Parsill grounded out but Cisneros scored on the play. Judson's final run came in the seventh inning Cisneros scored again on a Krueger sacrifice fly.
A strong second inning by Olivet Nazarene set the tone of the first game of the day and the second game of the three-game series. Olivet Nazarene racked up seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. Judson did score three in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3 but could not recover. Both teams added one run fifth as Olivet Nazarene made it 10-4 in the sixth with two more runs. Judson added just one more in the seventh inning.
Jeremy Winnan took the loss for Judson going 1.2 innings giving up four earned runs with one strikeout. Kyle Murphy followed let three earned runs score in 0.0 innings pitched before Scott Newton went the next 1.1 innings with no runs. Kevin Carmody then went two innings and had no earned runs and Jason Egli finished with two earned runs and two strikeouts.
Eight different players for Judson had one hit and Matt McHenry, Derek Shomon, and Levi Pippenger each had a RBI.
Judson will now wait to see where they are seeded in the NCCAA National World Series to start on Wednesday, May 19th.
