Clinton, Iowa - A 30-point effort by junior DeWayne Robinson was not enough for Judson University as Ashford College won, 75-65, in Iowa. JU now drops to 0-2 on the year.
Robinson, who recorded his first double-double of the year, shot 11-of-15 from the floor and made 8-of-11 free throws to lead all scorers with 30 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Senior Ilija Bojanic added 17 for JU. Ashford was led by Cash Bimm's 17 points.
Judson took an early 5-2 lead in the first three minutes but AC came running back with a 22-8 run in the next eight minutes for a 10-point lead, 24-13. AC went on to take their largest lead of 15 points, 37-22, with 3:54 left in the half. JU responded on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to seven, 39-32, at the half.
The Eagles came out defensively in the second half and held AC to just two made shots in the first six minutes. In that time, JU made a run to put themselves back within reaching distance of taking the lead. With 14:10 left in the game, Robinson hit a shot to put JU within four, 43-39, but that is as close as the Eagles would get. In the next three minutes, AC had a 7-1 run to spread their lead back to 10, 50-40. JU cut the lead to seven several times but AC could not get any closer.
AC finished the game shooting 44% whiel JU shot 39%. Both teams had 19 turnovers but JU went 3-of-17 from three point land (17%) as AC shot 31%.
JU will now host East-West University on Friday, November 16th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Judson University Tournament.
