
KENOSHA, Wisc. - Erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning in game one pushed Judson University to a 10-6 win over #17 Carthage College in the double header game. Carthage College did take game two, 6-2, to even the series. Nicole Dimiceli tied the single season home run record at 14 with a home run in game one. Judson is now 29-25 overall. Carthage College is a NCAA Division III program.
Game 1
Judson 10, #17 Carthage 6
After being down 3-0, Judson scored eight runs in two innings to take the five-run lead. Judson put one on the board in the fourth and then produced seven runs in the fifth inning for the 8-3 lead. Carthage came within two with three runs in the bottom of the inning but Judson added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 10-6.
Lizzy Jacobson won her 15th game of the year going five innings with three strikeouts and six earned runs. Hallie Niewold earned her fourth save of the year finishing the final two innings recording two strikeouts and not giving up a run.
Nicole Dimiceli led the team with a 3-of-5 performance at the plate with two RBI. Adding two hits were Carrie Sensor and Danielle Curylo. Kristin Krueger also had three hits. Adding RBI were Concetta Lampugnano and Curylo with one, Dimiceli and Jacobson with two, and Sensor with three.
Dimiceli gave Judson their first run of the game with her 14th home run of the year to tie Deb Leganski's record set in 2008. Judson then added seven runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Niewold was Judson's second run of the game on a wild pitch which was followed by a Sensor single that brought in two runs to make it 4-3. Dimiceli picked up her second RBI in back-to-back innings with a single to right field as Sensor came in for the fifth run. Jacobson then stepped to the plate and swatted a shot to right center field for the 7-3 advantage. Two batters later, Curylo singled as Haley Secor came in for the seventh run of the inning.
Carthage scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-6 but Niewold pitched the final two innings facing eight batters and giving up just two hits. Judson put two more on the board in the top of the seventh with singles from Lampugnano and Sensor.
Game 2
#17 Carthage 6, Judson 2
Judson took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning but Carthage countered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning for the one-run lead. Carthage added three more runs in the fifth inning for the 6-2 win.
Sarah Boyer took the loss going the entire game with four strikeouts but gave up seven hits and five earned runs. Jacobson and Secor each had two hits for Judson as Jacobson provided the two RBI.
In the first inning, Jacobson singled down the right field line to bring in both Dimiceli and Sensor for the 2-0 lead. Carthage then took the lead in the bottom of the inning. After the first, in which Judson had four hits, Judson only produced three more hits in the game.
Judson will try for their first-ever 30-win season on Thursday, May 6th, as they take on Trinity Christian in the CCAC Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill.
