
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Earning a program record 27th win in a CCAC sweep of Cardinal Stritch, Judson University won game one in five innings, 9-1, and the held onto the game two win, 6-5. Judson's 27 wins surpass the 25 that was the school record from last year. The sweep gives Judson a final CCAC record of 10-8.
Concetta Lampugnano led Judson with four hits and four RBI with a double and home run in two games. Hallie Niewold guided Judson to the game two win pitching 5.2 innings for her fifth win and hitting the game winning home run in the top of the eighth. Lizzy Jacboson won game one for her 13th win of the year which ties the school record for wins in a season set by Amy Brendlinger in 2003. The three strikeouts recorded in the win also tie the career record for strikeouts with 228 also held by Brendlinger.
Game 1
Judson 9, Cardinal Stritch 1
Scoring runs in all five innings, Judson finished the game in five innings by putting up four runs to make it 9-1. Cardinal Stritch's lone run was in the fourth inning to make it 5-1 before Judson responded with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Haley Secord drove in the first run in the first inning and then Lampugnano picked up her first RBI of the day in the second inning to make it 2-0. Jacobson was the third run to score of the game in the third inning on a Cardinal Stritch error.
Jacobson made it 5-0 in the fourth inning on a double to bring in Lampugnano and Kristin Krueger. Cardinal Stritch scored one run in the bottom of the inning but Judson ended the game in the fifth. Lampugnano had her second RBI of the day with a groundout to score Krueger. On that same play, both Niewold and Gladen scored on a Cardinal Stritch error. Carrie Sensor was the final run on the fifth error by Cardinal Stritch.
Nicole Dimiceli led the team with two hits but Lampugnano, LIzzy Jacobson, and Secor all had two RBI. Jacobson had a career game tying the single season record for wins with 13 and tying the career record for strikeouts with 228.
Game 2
Judson 6, Cardinal Stritch 5
Hallie Niewold came through for Judson both on the mound and at the plate to secure the series win and win #27. She pitched the final 5.2 innings for her fifth win with five strikeouts and then swatted the game winning home run in the top of the eighth inning. Niewold had three hits for three RBI while Lampugnano had her eighth home run of the season combining for three hits and two RBI. Jacobson had the other RBI for Judson.
Cardinal Stritch started the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning only to see Judson take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second. Niewold brought in the first two runs with a double to right center field. Cardinal Stritch answered back in the bottom of the third inning with three runs to retake the lead, 4-2. They made it 5-2 in the fourth inning but Judson crept back into the game in the next two innings.
In the fifth, Jacobson had a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to put Judson within two, 5-3. Lampugnano tied the game with her eighth home run of the year in the top of the sixth inning to make it 5-5. Niewold gave Judson the 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth with her first home run of the year. She then held off Cardinal Stritch in the bottom of the inning for the win. She faced four batters with two groundouts, a strikeout, and a walk.
Judson will now host NCAA Division II Lewis University on Thursday, April 22nd, at 5:00 p.m. at the Judson Softball Complex.
