
ELGIN, Ill. - Run ruling Cardinal Stritch University in both games of the CCAC double header, Judson University improved to 29-13 and 16-4 in the CCAC to stay in first place. Judson won game one in six innings, 11-1, and then took forced the game to end in five innings in game two, 14-4. Brian Brauer led Judson with five hits and four RBI and Johnny Amann tied the school record for triples in a season with six. John Banks improved to 3-2 with the complete game win in game one and Zach Liebman went four innings in game two for the win.
Game 1
Judson 11, Cardinal Stritch 1
Judson scored in every single inning to take the game in six innings, 11-1. Cardinal Stritch scored their only run in the second inning cutting the lead to one, 2-1, before Judson added two more in the bottom of the inning.
John Banks went six innings with four strikeouts giving up no earned runs on three hits. Nate Rohl was perfect at the plate going 3-of-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Collecting two hits were Brian Brauer and Andy Parsill. Ben Vincent had three RBI while Amann, Brauer, Parsill, Zach Williams, Matt McHenry, Rohl, and Levi Pippenger all had one RBI.
Brauer doubled in Amann for the first run of the game and then two batters later Williams hit a sacrifice fly to center field as Brauer was the second run. After Cardinal Stritch came within one, 2-1, Judson added two more runs in the bottom of the second. Pippenger had Judson's second sacrifice fly of the game for a two-run advantage, 3-1, and then Amann singled in Cantwell to make it 4-1.
Three runs in the third inning put Judson up 7-1. Rohl singled up the middle as the fourth batter of the inning to score Nick Norris and then Vincent tripled to deep right center field to bring in both Cantwell and Rohl.
One run was scored in both the fourth and fifth innings before the game ended with two runs in the sixth. Parsill tripled in the fourth inning as Brauer came in and then in the fifth inning Vincent grounded out as Rohl came home. In the sixth, a McHenry hit that followed with a fielding error let both Williams and Brauer score to end the game.
Game 2
Judson 14, Cardinal Stritch 4
Nine runs in the final two innings ended the game in five innings as Judson run ruled Cardinal Stritch, 14-4, in five innings. Zach Liebman went four innings with seven hits and four earned runs while Joe Huenecke finished the fifth inning with three straight outs. Both Brauer and Williams had three hits each as Brauer led Judson with three RBI. Also posting three RBI were Amann and McHenry.
Judson hit Cardinal Stritch right off the back with four runs in the first inning. As the third batter of the inning, McHenry tripled to center field as both Brauer and Williams made it 2-0. Rohl followed McHenry with a single for the 3-0 lead. Two batters later, Giovanni Cantwell singled through the right side as Rohl became the fourth run of the inning.
After a scoreless second inning, Judson gave up four runs in the top of the third as Cardinal Stritch tied the game at four. Judson did retake the lead with one run in the bottom of the inning on a Vincent double to score Cantwell.
Judson's big inning came in the fourth inning with seven runs scored for the 12-4 lead. Rohl had a sacrifice fly for the first of seven runs which was followed by a Derek Shomon single to score Williams. Four batters later, with the bases loaded, Amann hit his sixth triple of the year to bring in all three runs for 10-4 advantage. Brauer then stepped up to the plate and delivered a single for the sixth run of the inning. Two batters later, McHenry recorded a RBI with an error as Brauer scored for the seventh run.
Brauer then ended the game with a long single to center field in the fifth inning as Pippenger and Norris came racing home.
Judson now only needs two wins to break the program record for wins in a season as they won 30 games last year.
Judson will host St. Francis (IL), who is currently one game back in the CCAC race for first place, on Thursday, April 22nd, at 4:00 p.m. at Hoffer Field.
