
ELGIN, Ill. - Exploding for 20 runs and tying the program record for wins, the Judson University softball team took a CCAC double header over Calumet College by the score of 10-4 in both games. Judson won their 25th game of the year and evened their record in the CCAC at 8-8.
Offensively, Judson hit three home runs on the day and Nicole Dimiceli went 6-of-8 at the plate picking up eight RBI and one home run. Kristin Krueger went 5-of-7 while Danielle Curylo and Concetta Lampugnano each hit a home run. Lizzy Jacbson won her 12th game of the year in game one while Sarah Boyer picked up the save. In game two, Boyer earned the win and Hallie Niewold collected her third save of the year.
Game 1
Judson 10, Calumet 4
Judson scored two runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead before giving up four runs in the top of the fourth as Calumet tied the game. Judson fought right back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth for their 10 runs. Lizzy Jacobson pitched four innings for the win and Sarah Boyer finished the final three innings for her first save. Jacobson gave up six hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts. Boyer finished by shutting out Calumet and striking out two.
Krueger led Judson with a 3-of-3 performance at the plate while scoring three runs. Concetta Lampugnano and Nicole Dimiceli each had two hits while Dimiceli recorded three RBI. Danielle Curylo, with her fourth home run of the year, had two RBI while Lampugnano had two RBI with her home run. Carrie Sensor, Jacobson, and Haley Secor all added one RBI.
With two outs, Sam Gladen singled up the middle to become the first base runner. Curylo then stepped to the plate and swatted her fourth home run of the year over left center field to make it 2-0. In the third inning, Dimiceli and Jacobson both had RBI singles for the 4-0 lead.
After Calumet tied the game at four in the top of the fourth, Judson put up five runs in the bottom of the inning to push their lead to 9-4. A Calumet error let the first run come in of the inning as Hallie Niewold touched home. Sensor followed with a single to make it 6-4. Dimiceli then hit her first triple of the year to clear the bases of two runners for a four-run lead, 8-4. Secor finished off the scoring for Judson on a sacrifice fly to left field as Dimiceli scored.
The fifth inning brought one more run as Lampugnano doubled down the left field line to bring in Krueger.
Game 2
Judson 10, Calumet 4
Nicole Dimiceli was a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate with a single, double, and home run for five RBI as Judson won by six runs. Calumet scored first in the top of the first before Judson tied the game at one in the bottom of the inning. Judson then went up 2-1 in the third before Calumet took a 3-2 lead in the top of fourth. Judson answered big with a four-run inning for a three-run lead, 6-3, and then added another four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-4.
Sarah Boyer went four innings for the win to improve to 8-6 and Hallie Niewold picked up her third save of the year. Following Dimiceil's lead, Kristin Krueger, Jacobson, Sensor, and Lampugnano all had two hits. Jacbson recorded two RBI while Lampugnano, Curylo, and Krueger all had one RBI.
Judson tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when Dimiceli singled in Lampugnano. Judson took the 2-1 lead in the third inning on a Curylo double to bring in Dimiceli for the lead. After Calumet took the 3-2 lead, Judson responded with a four-run inning to retake the lead, 6-3. With the bases loaded, Dimiceli singled up the middle to add two more runs to the board. Jacobson followed with another single up the middle for two more runs that scored.
Calumet cut the lead to two, 6-4, only to see Judson add another four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Lampugnano started off the inning with a solo shot down the left field line for her seventh home run of the year. Two batters later, Dimiceli crushed her 13th home run of the year way over dead center field for a 8-4 lead. Krueger picked up an RBI six batters later on a Calumet error for the six run advantage, 10-4.
Judson travels to Milwaukee, Wisc., on Wednesday, April 21st, to face Cardinal Stritch at 3:00 p.m.
