ELMHURST, Ill. - Winning their 23rd game of the season in game one of the double header, Judson University held off Elmhurst College, 6-3, in game one and then fell in game two, 4-3. Judson is now 23-19 on the year. Lizzy Jacobson won her 11th game of the year and hit her fourth home run while Hallie Niewold picked up her first career save.
Game 1
Judson 6, Elmhurst 3
Judson scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in the three-run win. Elmhurst cut the lead to one, 3-2, and then Judson scored one in the third and two in the fifth to make it 6-2. Jacobson went six innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs and Niewold finished off the seventh for the save.
Carrie Sensor led the team with two hits but Jacobson had three RBI with her home run. Allison Catlett also added two runs.
Jacobson homered in the first inning and then Catlett had her RBI in the the third inning. Catlett added her second RBI in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt and then Danielle Curylo had the other RBI on a ground out.
Game 2
Elmhurst 4, Judson 3
Elmhurst scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held off Judson for the one-run win. Sarah Boyer took the loss for Judson as she went 5.1 innings with two strikeouts and four earned runs. Niewold pitched the final 0.2 innings and gave up one hit.
Concetta Lampugnano had two RBI for Judson on her sixth home run of the year. Sensor, Catlett, and Kristin Krueger all had two hits while Krueger added one RBI.
Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first inning until Lampugnano hit the home run in the third inning. Krueger then had a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning for the 3-1 advantage before Judson gave up three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Judson will host Calumet College at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19th, at the Judson Softball Complex in CCAC play.
