Elgin, Ill - Judson University (27-13) scored at least three runs in each of the first four innings of game one to beat Oakland City (15-20) by a score of 19-10. The Eagles followed that performance by scoring eleven more runs in game two to outpace the Mighty Oaks by a score of 11-4. Judson is now only four wins away from breaking the single season record for wins, which was set last year at 30.     

Jake Zappia picked up his first win of the season pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings in game one. Scott Newton (2-0) picked up the win in game two. Brian Brauer led the Eagles in game one gathering three hits and four RBIs. Angel Cisneros collected three hits in game two to lead the Eagles.

Game 1

Judson 19, Oakland City 10

In a slugfest that lasted nearly three hours, Judson outlasted the Mighty Oaks 19-10. Jeremy Winnan started the game for the Eagles pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up 10 runs, only five of which were earned. Zappia pitched over four scoreless innings in relief striking out four and walking three to pick up the win. Brauer led the Eagles going 3-of-4 with four runs and four RBIs. Designated hitter Andy Parsill added five RBIs on two hits, including a 3-run home run in the second inning. Giavonni Cantwell drove in three runs on two hits. Gary Capolino, Zach Williams, and Nate Rohl each added one RBI.

Oakland City struck first by scoring three runs on only two hits in the top of the first inning. Judson helped them along by committing three errors in the inning, allowing two unearned runs. Judson struck back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own. Brauer and Parsill scored Judson first two runs on passed balls. Williams was hit by a pitch and was later driven in by a RBI single off the bat of Nate Rohl. 

Oakland City wouldn't go away as they scored six more runs without recording a hit in the second inning, taking a 9-3 lead. Judson scored three in the bottom half of the inning as Andy Parsill hit a 3-run home run to left field, driving in Brauer and Pippenger. Oakland City scratched across another run in the top of the third to extend the lead to 10-6.

That was when Judson's bats came alive. Judson scored five in the third inning and seven in the fourth inning. Cantwell started the scoring off by hitting a RBI single through the left side. Cantwell scored later in the inning on a throwing error by the second baseman. Brauer followed by driving in one with a double down the left field line. Parsill drove in Norris on a sac fly to center field, and Williams capped off the scoring in the third by driving in Brauer with a RBI double to right field.     

Judson picked up where they left off in the next inning as Cantwell, Capolino, Brauer, and Parsill all drove in runs. Judson scored seven runs on five hits in the fourth inning. McHenry added the last run for the Eagles in the sixth inning as he scored off an error by the SS to give the Eagles the 19-10 victory.

Game 2

Judson 11, Oakland City 4

Judson got strong pitching performances from starter Scott Newton (2-0) and reliever Ed Draper (4-0) as they gave up only two earned runs in seven innings. Paul Zarlengo led the Eagles going 3-of-4 with three RBI and three runs. 

Oakland City struck first scoring one run in the top of the first. Judson answered by scoring three in the bottom half of the inning and one in each of the next two innings to take a 5-1 lead. Oakland City was able to get three of those runs back in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Eagles would not be denied as they scored one in the fifth and five in the sixth inning to extend the lead to
11-4.

After Oakland City scored the first run of the game, Judson struck back by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first. Derek Shomon, Steve Janezic, and Paul Zarlengo each had RBI hits to give Judson a 3-1 lead. Judson extended the lead to 5-1 after the third inning. Oakland City cut the lead to one after scoring one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. 

Judson's bats came alive once again as they took advantage of Oakland City's relief pitching, tagging them for 5 runs in the sixth inning. The Eagles batted around as Mike Krueger, Paul Zarlengo, Angel Cisnernos, and Gary Capolino all recorded RBIs in the inning. Judson pulled away in the sixth and came away with the 11-4 victory, picking up their 27th win of the season.
