Judson 7, Robert Morris 4 -
Box
ELGIN, Ill. -
Swinging their bats from the first inning and a strong pitching performance
down the stretch gave Judson University (24-12/14-4) their 24th win
of the year over Robert Morris, 7-4.
Judson scored runs in the first five innings and then held onto the lead
for the win. Nick Krisman went seven
strong innings for the win and then Ed Draper picked up his CCAC leading
seventh save of the year.
Four
different players had two hits for Judson and Brian Brauer led the team with
three RBI. Brauer, Johnny Amann, Zach
Williams, and Nate Rohl all had two hits.
Andrew Parsill recorded two RBI with his third home run of the year and
Rohl and Levi Pippenger each had one RBI.
Robert
Morris struck first with a run in the top of the first but Judson responded by
putting three runs on the board right off the bat, literally. Brauer brought in the first run with a triple
to left field as Amann tied the game at one.
Parsill stepped up and then crushed the ball 430 feet for his third home
run of the year and a 3-1 advantage.
Judson then
scored a run in each of the next four innings.
In the second inning, Amann had a triple to left center and then was
brought home by Brauer for a three-run lead, 4-1. Rohl singled home Williams in the third
inning to make it 5-1. Brauer picked up
another RBI in the fourth inning with the bases loaded as he hit into a fielder's
choice that scored Ben Vincent. The
final run was brought in by Pippenger in the fifth inning as he singled in Rohl
for a 7-1 lead.
Robert
Morris slowly snuck their way back into the game with one run in the sixth and
two in the seventh to make it 7-4.
Draper came in to start the eighth inning in relief of Krisman and had
all three batters ground out to end the inning.
In the ninth inning, he pitched himself out of a jam for the win. With two runners on and no outs, the third
batter of the inning hit into a double play that left one runner on third
base. The next batter grounded out to
end the game as Draper received his seventh sae of the year in his 17th
appearance. His seventh save and 17th
appearance lead the CCAC.
Judson will
have a day off before hosting a double header against NCAA Division II Oakland
City at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16th.
