
PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - Coming from behind to win their 21st game of the year, Judson University (21-10/11-2) ignited for three runs in the top of the ninth inning and then held onto the win over Trinity Christian College (11-15/4-8), 7-6. Johnny Amann tripled in two insurance runs to make it 7-4 in the top of the ninth and the Ed Draper came in to collect his CCAC leading sixth save of the year in the bottom of the inning. Judson has now four in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.
Amann and Levi Pippenger each had two hits for Judson as Amann recorded three RBI. Andrew Parsill and Pippenger each had one RBI. Amann's two hits were a double and a triple while Pippenger and Ben Vincent each had a double.
Nick Krisman once again went deep into the game going eight innings for four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Draper finished off the game in one inning giving up two hits and one earned run.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Trinity Christian had two runners in scoring position (2nd and 3rd base) with two outs after scoring two runs to come within one. Draper proceeded to pick up the final out of the game when Trinity Christian's Joe Gura grounded out to him.
Judson took the lead for good in the top of the ninth inning. Entering the inning tied at four, Judson came away with three key runs. Nick Norris was the go-ahead run when he and Ben Vincent pulled off a double steal and Norris stole home. Two batters later, Amann tripled to bring in both Pippenger and Vincent for the 7-4 advantage.
Trinity Christian took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. They strung out this lead until the sixth inning. Judson picked up one run in the third inning when Vincent scored on a fielding error by Trinity Christian. Judson then tied the game in the sixth inning with two runs.
Pippenger started off the sixth inning with a single and made it all the way to third base on a fielding error in center field. Amann proceeded with his first of three RBI as he whacked a double to score Pippenger. Two batters later, Parsill singled to advance Amann home to tie the game at three.
Judson too the 4-3 lead in the top of seventh inning on Pippenger double that brought in Giovanni Cantwell. Trinity Christian tied the game at four in the bottom of the eighth before the ninth inning decided the game.
Judson will host Trinity Christian in a CCAC double header on Saturday, April 10th, at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffer Field. The day is also Hoffer Day as Judson will honor Robert Hoffer's family for their contribution to Judson baseball.
