ELGIN, Ill. - Splitting up the venues due to the wet weather, the Judson University men's tennis team pulled off a 5-4 win over Elgin Community College. The first part of the match, the doubles competition, was played indoors before the singles were moved back outside after everything dried up.
"It was a good win for us," says head coach Art Steuber. "We tried some different doubles strategies and they worked for us."
With the weather uncooperating, the doubles portion of the contest was moved indoors to Centre Court Athletic Club. The #3 doubles of Lucas Prewitt and Drasko Novakovic cruised to an easy win, 6-2, 6-4.Sonesacki Siripanya and Adam Westhauser dropped a closely contested three set contest # doubles, 7-5, 67-, 5-10 but then Thepkaysone Siripanya and Jesse Perez came from a set down to win the match in a third set super tie break to give the Eagles a 2-1, 75-, 6-7, 10-5, lead after the doubles competition.
As the weather improved and the courts dried, the singles matches were moved back to Judson, where the matches were split 3-3, giving Judson a 5-4 victory. T. Siripanya took the #2 singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shane Gabler while Adam Westhauser took the #3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, over Casey Siripanya, and then Luke Prewitt provided straight set wins at the #5 spot, 6-3, 6-4, over Sean Lang for the match win.
