
ELGIN, Ill. - Staying in first place of the CCAC with a two-game sweep of Olivet Nazarene, Judson University improved their record to 19-10 and 9-2 in the CCAC. Judson took game one, 9-2, and then held on for the sweep in game two, 5-2. Judson now has a two-game lead over second place University of St. Francis.
Game 1
Judson 9, Olivet Nazarene 2
After two scoreless innings for Judson, they erupted for four straight innings of scoring for a 9-1 lead. Olivet Nazarene scored a charity run in the seventh to make it, 9-2. Judson scored three runs in the third and fourth innings for a 6-1 lead and then added one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Matt McHenry led Judson with a 3-of-4 performance at the plate and three RBI. Andy Parsill went 2-of-4 with two doubles for four RBI. Brian Brauer and Giovanni Cantwell each had two hits. Zach Williams and Ben Vincent also had a RBI.
Nick Krisman pitched the complete game for the win to improve to 4-2 on the year. He gave up only two earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Olivet Nazarene scored in their first and last at-bats of the game. They took the 1-0 lead in the first inning until Judson plated three runs in the third. Parsill picked up his first of four RBI with a double to bring in Johnny Amann to tie the game at one. Williams followed Parsill with a groundout but scored Brauer from third to take the lead, 2-1. McHenry then singled up the middle for the third run of the game.
In the fourth inning, Judson put three more on the board. With two outs and the bases loaded, Parsill hit a base clearing double to left field to make it 6-1. In the fifth inning, Vincent had a sacrifice fly to bring in McHenry.
The final two runs came in the sixth inning as McHenry singled down the left field line to score both Williams and Brauer.
Game 2
Judson 5, Olivet Nazarene 2
Judson started game two off where they left game one by scoring three runs in the first inning. They then added one in the third and one in the sixth for the 5-2 win. Olivet Nazarene picked up two runs in the fifth to make it 4-2 before Judson added their final run in the sixth.
Brian Brauer, Andy Parsill, and Giovanni Cantwell each had two hits for Judson. Parsill and Cantwell had two RBI each and Nate Rohl had one.
Mitch Smith won his third game in a row, all in the CCAC, going six innings with two earned runs and five strikeouts. Ed Draper earned his fifth save of the year pitching the final inning and ending the game on a strikeout.
Parsill brought in the first run of the game with a single through the left side as Johnny Amann scored. Three batters later, Rohl earned his RBI with a single through the right side to make it 2-0 as Brauer crossed home plate. Cantwell, who was the very next batter, had a single to center field as McHenry touched home plate for the 3-0 advantage.
Two innings later, Judson made it 4-0 when Cantwell grounded out to bring home Williams. After Olivet Nazarene made it a two-run game in the fifth inning, Parsill gave Judson an insurance run with a single in the sixth inning bringing in Levi Pippenger. S
In the sixth inning, Olivet Nazarene had the bases loaded with two outs and Judson's Krisman struck out Kyle Cabral to end the threat.
Judson will travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday, April 3rd, to finish the three-game series with a single, nine inning game at 12:30 p.m.
