
ELGIN, Ill. - Pounding out 17 hits for 15 runs, Judson University (12-9/2-1) finished the series over Illinois Tech (1-7/1-2) in fashion with a 15-1 win. Judson takes the overall series, 2-1. Mitch Smith pitched the seven innings for his first win at Judson.
Judson had five doubles and three triples in the win as seven players had two or more hits. Levi Pippenger led Judson going 4-of-4 with five RBI. Two of his four hits were doubles. Picking up two hits were John Amann, Brian Brauer, Andy Parsill, Nate Rohl, Matt McHenry, and Ben Vincent. Amann, Brauer, and Rohl each had two RBI while Parsill, McHenry, and Vincent each had one RBI. Stepniewski had the one RBI for Illinois Tech.
Smith pitched the seven innings for the win as he had four strikeouts and gave up just five hits for one earned run. He also only walked one batter in facing 27 batters.
Judson was on the board early as they light up the scoreboard with six runs in the first inning. Parsill brought in the first run with a RBI triple to right center field. Two batters later, Rohl picked up his RBI with a single through the right side. McHenry followed Rohl with a double that made it 3-0. Again, two batters later, Vincent singled through the left side as McHenry crossed the plate for the four-run advantage. Pippenger finished off the scoring with his first of two doubles that scored both Mike Krueger and Vincent.
Scoring one run in the second inning and then again in the third inning, Judson dropped four runs in the fifth and then three runs in the sixth for the 15 runs. Rohl added another RBI in the second inning and then Amann tripled in the third to score Pippenger to make it 8-1.
In the fifth inning, Pippenger swatted his second double of the game for two RBI. Amann then hit a sacrifice fly for the third run of the inning and then Brauer singled to the shortstop to score Pippenger for the 12-1 advantage.
Pippenger brought in his fifth RBI of the game in the sixth on a single to the pitcher. Mike Krueger scored the 14th run on a wild pitch and then Brauer finished off the scoring with a triple to score Pippenger.
Judson will host Trinity International at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23rd, in a CCAC double header at Hoffer Field.
