ELGIN, Ill. - Key hits by #17 St. Xavier University (11-5/2-0) led to their sweep of Judson University in the CCAC season opener as the Cougars won 3-2 and 3-1. Judson is now 6-6 on the year and 0-2 in the CCAC.

Game 1

St. Xavier 3, Judson 2

St. Xavier scored one run in back to back innings for a 2-0 lead. The Cougars crossed the plate once in the third and the fourth inning. Judson then tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth before giving up the winning run in the sixth inning.

Haley Secor singled in Brittany Holm with a hit through the left side to make it 2-1. Two batters later, Concetta Lampugnano hit a sacrifice bunt to the second baseman as Sam Gladen tied the game at two. St. Xavier then scored the winning run with two outs in the sixth on a double by Gryczewski. Kristin Krueger started the seventh inning with a single but Judson could not advance her as the next two batters struck out and then the game ended on a ground out.

Six different players had one hit in the game and Lampugnano and Secor each had a RBI. Danielle Curylo had a double. Lizzy Jacobson (2-2) took the loss for Judson going six innings and giving up all three runs with two earned. She had two strikeouts and two walks. Amie Brown received the complete game win for St. Xavier.

Game 2

Judson did their only scoring in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Judson had the bases loaded with only one out in the first inning but only produced one run. The run came in when Jalyn Shearer walked Hallie Niewold. St. Xavier then tied up the game in the second inning before at two-run home run in the fifth inning put the game away. Overall, Judson left nine runners on base.

Both Lampugnano and Dimiceli had two hits each. Sarah Boyer took the loss for Judson as she fell to 2-2 on the year. She had three strikeouts and two walks.

Judson will travel to Indiana this weekend for four games in the Indiana Wesleyan tournament.
