MADISONVILLE, Tenn. - Moving their 2010 record two games above .500, the Judson University baseball team swept their double header games against Hiwassee College. Judson is now 8-6 on the season and won, 6-5, and 15-0.

Game 1

Judson 6, Hiwassee College 5

Zach Williams hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to score Brian Brauer from third base for the game winning run. Brauer had two hits in the game with his second coming in the ninth inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then went to third on a wild pitch before crossing the plate for the sixth run of the game. Also providing two hits were Steve Janezic and Angel Cisnerso (two doubles). Mike Krueger and Derek Shomon each had a home run. Krueger cranked his in the third inning and then Shomon had a three-run shot in the fifth.

Joe Huenecke received the start and went 5.2 innings while giving up three runs, six hits, two walks and recorded three strikeouts. Jake Zappia then pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two runs. Jason Egli finished the game for the win which is his second in two days. Egli gave up just one hit in two innings of work. He worked out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning. With runners on second and third and the game tied, he provided a ‘web gem' by grabbing a swinging bunt down the first base line and throwing out the runner at home to save the go-ahead run. He then got the next batter to fly out to end the inning.


Game 2

Judson 15, Hiwassee College 0

It all came together in game two as everything clicked for Judson. Zach Liebman went the complete five innings for his first collegiate win and shutout. He gave up just four hits with two strikeouts in the shut out win. Shomon led Judson with three hits and four RBI as he had two doubles and one triple. Providing two hits were Nate Rohl (two doubles), Angel Cisneros, Gary Capolino, and Hunter Groves. Rohl, Capolino, and Groves each had two RBI.

Judson will take on Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 10th, at 2:00 p.m.
