ELGIN, Ill. - Making a bid to for their second CCAC Tournament Championship in three years, the Judson University men's basketball team will open the 2010 CCAC Tournament on Tuesday, February 23rd, hosting Purdue-North Central at 7:00 p.m. Judson is the #2 seed in the CCAC Tournament. Judson has won one CCAC Tournament Championship in 2008 as it was their first-ever for the program.
Judson has met Purdue-North Central twice this year and took both contests. Judson opened up their CCAC season in January with an 83-73 win in Indiana and then took a 98-71 win on January 30th in Elgin. Judson has won the last seven meetings vs. Purdue-North Central and holds a 19-5 series advantage.
Tony Tompkins is in his second year as the head coach and has a 1-1 record in the CCAC Tournament. Last year, Judson defeated Purdue-North Central in the first round, 92-72, and then fell to eventual CCAC Tournament Champions Trinity Christian at home, 91-79. In his five seasons at Missouri Baptist, he was 5-4 in the AMC Tournament with one AMC Tournament Championship. Overall, he is 6-5 in the post season conference tournament and 0-2 in the NAIA Division I National Tournament.
In 2007-08, Tompkins was the associate head coach at Judson when they went to the NAIA Division II National Tournament and won both the CCAC regular season and tournament championship.
